“Study: No radioactive cesium in 99% of Fukushima, Ibaraki residents ” April 11, 2013 is based on MISLEADING information.

The Government of Japan’s efforts to minimize the fear of radioactive issues is amazing. They even have the newspapers helping.

“Study: No radioactive cesium in 99% of Fukushima, Ibaraki residents ” April 11, 2013

“Some experts warn that food contaminated by radioactive materials that spewed into the atmosphere after the meltdowns following the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, can cause extreme internal exposure. If true, radioactive cesium would accumulate in the body, elevating the radiation doses in people aged 20 or older about a year after nuclear disaster started.

But the survey has shown that this has not happened.”

The article was Based on 2 studies that actually said:

Internal radiocesium contamination of adults and children in Fukushima 7 to 20 months after the Fukushima NPP accident as measured by extensive whole-body-counter surveys

“Conscientious and well-supervised food testing/screening and whole-body counting must be carried out continuously in Fukushima in order to maintain the low-level of internal exposure.”

“Differences between children and adults may reflect differences in cesium metabolism5 or greater attention to food and water consumption or changes in outdoor activity in children.”

The newspaper article gave the impression that there is no issue of contamination with food. (Eat up, no need to measure anything.)

In the same article, it gives the impression that 99% of the residents are not contaminated. (You were worried for no reason at all.)

“Study: No radioactive cesium in 99% of Fukushima, Ibaraki residents ” April 11, 2013

“Radioactive cesium has not been detected in 99 percent of people in Fukushima Prefecture, host of the stricken Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant, and neighboring Ibaraki Prefecture since March 2012, a study showed.”

“These results are not conclusive for the prefecture as a whole, but are consistent with results obtained from other municipalities in the prefecture, and with prefectural data. This does not mean, however, that Fukushima residents are free of internal exposure risks, as evidenced by a small number of senior citizens whose body burden exceeded 100 Bq/kg.

Only 21,785 screenings were done for this study. (P.S. The study does not indicate how many of the screenings were “repeat” people).

“Because data were collected from volunteers, the results may not be representative of the entire population in contaminated areas.”

Only 11,026 screenings were done for this study. (P.S. The study does not indicate how many of the screenings were “repeat” people).

Are those figures really representative of the number of people that actually live in those areas?

Another example of Ethics and Integrity.

Radiation Studies approved on Fukushima Nuclear Disaster Victims, no need to tell them that they are “test subjects”.

radiationscreening

” The institutional review board of the Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo, approved the study with a waiver of informed consent.” Informed consent is when a person is told that their personal information, including medical history, will be used for something, like a study. The waiver was probably granted due to the “nuclear disaster”.

“A voluntary screening program for levels of cesium (134Cs and 137Cs), known to be representative of total internal radiation exposure,2 was conducted between September 26, 2011, and March 31, 2012, for all residents aged 6 years or older using a whole-body counter (Fastscan Model 2250) shielded to background radiation.”

“A total of 9498 residents enrolled in the study. The sample consisted of 1432 children (720 girls; median [range] age, 11 [6-15] years) and 8066 adults (4512 women; median [range] age, 44 [15-97] years).”

Maybe it was offered for free to “calm” the fears of the citizens, and in return, the people became part of a study. Have no worry that they are now being tracked for health issues. The implication for this is that in the future, should they have an issue with their health, they can always be told that this was a “pre-existing” condition and not covered by their insurance OR that their insurance does not cover “nuclear exposure”. Medical insurance companies are probably working with the Government of Japan to try and cover their liabilities over “nuclear radiation exposure”. It is always about “saving” money and protecting their “stock” rating for them.

The 9498 people were enrolled without any discussion that they were going to be used for a study; the “waiver of informed consent”. “It’s all for the benefit of mankind”, so it’s ok. The “test subjects” data from this Fukushima radiation study will be used so that it can help “future nuclear disaster victims”.

The Japan Veterinary Medical Association and its associated Veterinary Associations.

April 22, 2013

vetsdidnothelp

As stated earlier, other than doing the Government of Japan’s “survey of animals” and participating in the few Government of Japan’s highly publicized Fukushima pet rescues, there is nothing that they did until much later and that was to help euthanize livestock and/or move livestock to “farms” for research. There are a few stories about veterinarians that did work but they were not part of the veterinary associations. They were veterinarians that were “true” compassionate people that helped and worked with the non-governmental rescue groups.

The Government of Japan did its first “animal” survey on April 15, 2011 and on this survey done by veterinarians, Fukushima Livestock animals found in distress were not helped. The animals in the photos were helped by Japanese rescuers not associated with the Government. The Government of Japan did not start helping animals until May 10, 2011.
