The Japan Veterinary Medical Association is part of the Government created Headquarters for the relief of Animals in Emergencies, the Japan Veterinary Medical Association PROVIDES input as to where donated money should go. The Institute of Miyagi Veterinary Medical Association received 3,000,000 yen for “pet relief efforts” (31 December 2012). However, if you go to their webpage, there is nothing about Fukushima Pet Relief work. If you can find something, please let me know. 3 MILLION yen given to this Veterinary association, and nothing to account for how the money was used to help the Fukushima disaster stricken animals.  There exists NO OVERSIGHT committee to ensure that the donated funds are used for actually helping the Fukushima disaster animals.   The Japan Veterinary Medical Association and its associated Veterinary Associations have received the MAJORITY share of money donated to the Headquarters for the Relief of Animals in Emergency.  In the meantime, owners that live in temporary shelters that do not allow pets have to find and PAY for alternative shelter for their pet OR leave them at their Fukushima radiation contaminated home.
