Update : Jan. 6, 2012. I guess my sources were right. The stealing of money is just now making the news.
From the ongoing Fukushima nuclear crisis, I have come to the conclusion that Japan is the best place you can be if you are a criminal. No country can beat out a ” bow” , a “sincere” apology, and maybe a resignation that serves as punishment if the criminal is caught. It is the most amazing discovery.
There is also a story about an executive/veterinarian at a very large animal rescue organization that embezzled money from the Headquarters for the Relief of Animals in Emergency. This organization was created by the Government of Japan and consists of JSPCA, Japan Pet Corporation, Japan Veterinary Medical Association, and Japan Animal Welfare Society. AKA : doubutsukyuen.org. But that is ok, because although I didn’t hear about the bow and the delivery of the ” I am so sorry” part, he was allowed to resign. Neat, right?
I have also heard about a veterinarian that was caught stealing in the Fukushima exclusion zone, but guess what? I am sure that with a bow and a sincere delivery of a ” I’m sorry”, he was allowed to resign and walk away.
How about TEPCO? What about TEPCO , you may ask? Well, how about the fact someone falsified the Fukushima nuclear plant’s safety records, the Japanese Government found out, and guess what? The President of the company resigns. I guess he gave them the sincere ” I’m sorry” and bow before he resigned. Can’t get any sweeter than that.
Then, when the Government of Japan asks to see records from TEPCO, TEPCO delivers the information with big patches of blackout ink all over the place. It looked more like a black piece of paper with some white on it. But that is ok. No one from TEPCO was held in contempt or went to jail My guess is that someone delivered the ” I’m sorry” and bow and then explained that they were just the TEPCO delivery men, which is why they didn’t have to resign. Clever on the part of TEPCO.
In most civilized countries, when a married politician is found to be having an affair, the whole incident generally ends with that politician resigning. Let’s get real, how can you trust a person that can lie to a spouse? If that politician has no qualms lying to the person that they are married, then think how easy it would be for that politician to lie to strangers. However, in Japan, there is no resignation. In fact, you leap a few rungs on the ladder of achievement. You may wonder what politician can do this? Goshi ” I lied to my wife so lying to you is not an issue” Hosono.
Goshi ” Kusai” Hosono did have an affair. He stayed where he was, no resignation. He eventually was made the Minister of Nuclear Crisis Management. And, since he showed that he was so effective managing the nuclear disaster, he was also made the Minister of Environment. Warms the heart to know that the person managing these 2 critical Ministries was given to a man who had no problem lying to his wife. It must be a stretch to think that someone with so much integrity would lie about the nuclear disaster. Like he has lied about the animals in the Fukushima exclusion zone.
The Japanese People must be happy that they don’t have to spend so much of the Govenment of Japan’s budget to maintain the criminals in jail. They sure don’t sound like they have to build more prisons or that their prisons have an issue with over crowding. Nope. Not necessary when you can give a bow, a ” I am sorry” and resign.
The more one looks at how issues are handled within the Japanese Government and how people react to their politicians indiscretions, it seems that the politicians and criminals just can’t complain. They have it so nice. And, the Japanese people don’t seem to mind. Why they just re-elect them. Talk about job security. Nice.
